Posted by Boomer Abroad in Untagged

LatAm Hedgefunds:
Comprehensive Report and Webinar

Alternative Latin Investor is proud to present our combined LatAm Hedge Fund Report and Webinar to be hosted by Hedgehogs.net CEO, Ken Yeadon, on November 10th at 1pm EST.  Early-bird price till Nov. 2nd is 175.00USD after which price is 199.00USD.  This price includes digital edition of report with directory as well as attendance to webinar.
Report
We have interviewed several industry professionals; mostly fund managers, to create a comprehensive overview of the LatAm fund market. We also look at the existing LatAm fund indexes and the legal aspects of funds. Included is a profile of 30+ funds with a directory of contacts, email or phone, for over 300+ funds
  • Industry Overview
  • Growth of Industry
  • Legal Aspects
  • LatAm Fund Indexes
  • Changes in Legal Aspects
  • 30+ Fund Profiles
  • 300+ Directory
  • The Economist on Hedge Funds
Webinar
Topics to be discussed
  • LatAm funds versus Global Macrofunds or Emerging Market funds with LatAm exposure
  • New investor demographics, or the same?  And who are they?
  • Institutional Participation?
  • Has there been a change in global opinion of LatAm funds due to crash of US/Euro markets?
  • Has this created a vacuum for LatAm to fill?
  • With the developed world seemingly on the path of competitive devaluation vs. emerging markets, how do the panel see Latin American investments being impacted?
  • Asian countries, in particular China, are increasingly looking to secure commercial rights over global supply chains for resources. (e.g. recent headlines over global supply of Rare Earths, a critical commodity input to green energy technologies and mobile devices). How is this impacting Latin America, and are any Latin American countries following similar strategies (via Sovereign Wealth Funds for example) to exploit their natural resource advantages? Does this represent an investable theme for Latin American funds?

U.S. Citizens - Register to Vote and Get your Absentee Ballot

By: Clair Whitmer, Director of Voter Outreach for Overseas Vote Foundation.
As Election Day approaches, last-minute U.S. voters scramble to cast ballots
Overseas Vote Foundation offers tips on how you can still get a ballot and return it in time

You requested your ballot but didn't receive it yet? Or maybe you just procrastinated? Fortunately, you still have time to vote in 2010 if you remember one little acronym: FWAB. What's a FWAB? It's the "Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot" and the official alternative for ballots that are late, or missing somewhere between your election official's office and your home.

New legislation intended to make it easier to vote from overseas -- the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment or MOVE Act -- mandates that all states must now accept the FWAB for all federal elections. If you registered/requested a ballot at any point in 2010 and you don't have your regular ballot already, then it's time to use the FWAB.

At the Overseas Vote Foundation (OVF) website, using the FWAB is easy. Enter your voting address and our wizard will automatically list the candidates running in your Congressional district.  Want to know more about a particular candidate? Look up his or her bio in our Candidate Finder.

Retired in Mexico ? Being retired nowadays can be about more than playing golf or fishing.
For John and Janet Luoma it's about remodeling a colonial home in Merida and raising a forest in the southern part of the State of Yucatan in Mexico.

The Luomas, from Stillwater, Minnesota, started their adventure in Merida by renovating a colonial home to use for retirement. But John, who grew up on his father's farm and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Latin America, decided he needed something more to keep him occupied.

The Luomas are now the proud owners of "Aguada La Celosa," their 1,300-acre ranch in southern Yucatan. With the help of a Mexican national agriculture organization, CONAFOR - Comision Nacional Forestal, John and Janet have started a reforestation project on their ranch.

Boomers Living Abroad

The number of Americans and Canadians living abroad, by today's count approximately 7 million (according to The Washington Post), is twice the population of Chicago and greater than that of 33 U.S. States. A number that has grown steadily over the past decade, and it is expected to more than double within ten years. In the next 20 years, 100 million baby boomers, from the USA and Canada, are going to retire. Five million baby boomers turn age 60 each year, Ten Thousand per day, Eight per minute, and scores of them are purchasing property abroad as vacation homes or investment homes. Naturally, many of them are auditioning these homes for potential primary retirement residences.
