Confessions of a spice-challenged visitor to Mexico

Posted by Watch Boom in Untagged

Watch Boom

First, let's get this straight: I really like spices. The trouble is, they don't like me. Anything with even a tiny chile in it gives me an instant heartburn. So when I'm in Mexico, enchiladas are out. So are quesadillas. Ditto for huevos rancheros. I can't even be in the same room with chipotles a la poblana.

Where does a spice-challenged traveler chow down south of the border?

As a travel writer, I've been there lots times. Over the years I've learned to look for international chain hotels that cater to families -- because their restaurants tend to offer simple fare for kids. Like hamburgers, hot dogs and pepito (steak) sandwiches.

Posted by Boomer Abroad in Untagged

Boomer Abroad
Boomer Patients and Senior Patiens are traveling abroad for healthcare.
Cold weather, high cost of living, health care costs and other issues are leading many baby boomers to live and travel abroad.

And while there are plenty of other competitors for North America’s medical tourists, Mexico offers many advantages for those who are seeking affordable and immediate care. Here are just a few of them:

What is the meaning of Valentine’s day for Baby Boomers?

Posted by Boomer Abroad in Untagged

Boomer Abroad
I am sure that Valentine’s day has taken on an entirely different meaning now that you are an adult.
Back in elementary school, you knew Valentine’s Day was not about lovers, but about love and caring and friendship. What do you think, believe and feel today?
I think that Baby Boomers are looking for an experience that feels real to them, something that touches their heart, something that makes sense. Do not buy into the greeting card definition of Valentine’s day. Define it for yourself.
Just keep in mind and remember that loved ones won’t be in our life forever and we should cherish the time we have with them.

Share your Valentine's day experiences abroad with us. We want to hear from You.
Where did you choose to go?
What did you do?

Boomers Living Abroad

The number of Americans and Canadians living abroad, by today's count approximately 7 million (according to The Washington Post), is twice the population of Chicago and greater than that of 33 U.S. States. A number that has grown steadily over the past decade, and it is expected to more than double within ten years. In the next 20 years, 100 million baby boomers, from the USA and Canada, are going to retire. Five million baby boomers turn age 60 each year, Ten Thousand per day, Eight per minute, and scores of them are purchasing property abroad as vacation homes or investment homes. Naturally, many of them are auditioning these homes for potential primary retirement residences.
