There is a very interesting article at Gazette.com with the Title: The business of Aging, Retirees seen as fueling economic growth.

Tucker Hart Adams, a senior partner in Summit Economics, says that:
"Retirees are a basic industry. They bring new money into the economy. Basic industries are usually thought of as manufacturing or technology, but in this case they are bringing in money from outside the community in the form of pensions, investment income and savings".

Brent Green, a Colorado a Springs-based marketing and communications consultant, says that:
"Baby boomers tend to be more interested in adventure sports, cycling and hiking and taking vacations to areas where they can participate in those activities".

More Good News About Mexico in January 2012

Despite the global slowdown, multinational CEOs are generally upbeat on Latin America's business outlook this year, according to a Latin Business Chronicle survey.

Nissan, the Japanese auto manufacturer, will invest more than 1.9 billion dollars in the construction of a new car plant in Aguascalientes. This could be the most important foreign direct investment (FDI) project for Mexico in 2012, informed Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan and Renault.

Pirelli, the Italian tire manufacturer, will begin operations in its new plant in Silao, Guanajuato, in April 2012. The plant required a 210 million dollar investment and has an estimated production capacity of 4.5 million tires per year towards 2015, informed the company’s CEO in Mexico, Mauricio Canineo.

Welch Allyn, one of the leaders in the medical industry in Baja California, will invest 7.4 million dollars in 2012 with which it expects to see a 10% growth.

Cinépolis plans to open 350 movie theaters in 2012, of which 200 will be located in Brazil, Colombia, the United States and India, informed the company’s president and CEO, Alejandro Ramírez..

Grupo México plans to invest approximately five billion dollars to strengthen their mining, transportation and infrastructure operations in the next five years.

Between 2010 and 2011, Mexican companies placed 28.345 billion dollars of FDI, which is equal to the amount they reported between 2005 and 2009. Furthermore, their productive investments abroad reached a record 14.345 billion dollars in 2010, according to data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and 14 billion in 2011, according to estimates by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

Latin America is Google's fastest growing region in the world and Mexico outpaces Brazil in internet usage on their cell phones.
Ten percent of Google Mexico search queries are coming from Mexico's 85 million mobile subscribers. The opportunity to establish efficient operations in a country with strong economic growth, free trade agreements and a demographic boom are some of the reasons Google does business in Mexico.

Great News about Mexico in January 2012

Mexico is among the best countries in Latin America in which to start a business, according to the Index of Entrepreneurs of Latin America of the specialized digital magazine, Latin Business Chronicle.
 
In 2011, more than 167.3 million national tourists traveled through Mexico, a four percent increase compared to 2010, informed the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR).
 
In 2012, Mexico could attract close to 19 billion dollars in FDI, practically the same amount as in 2010,according to estimates by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
 
Mexico will grow by four percent in 2012, a similar development to 2011, of approximately 4.1%, according to projections by the Center for Economic Studies for the Private Sector (CEESP).
 
In 2011, the entry of foreign investment to federal government instruments recorded an unprecedented 378.6563 billion pesos (30.5 billion dollars), informed Banxico.
 
Mexico placed two billion dollar debt in 10-year global bonds
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) informed that the government placed a debt emission for two billion dollars through 10-year bonds and that it will pay the lowest interest in history of its kind (3.71%). It added that the operation received a demand of more than five billion dollars and that it took place under very favorable conditions, which shows how investors trust the economic policy of the current government.
 
Mexico received the Guinness Record for the world’s highest cable-stayed bridge
President Felipe Calderón received the Guinness Record in recognition of the construction of the world’s highest cable-stayed bridge, which is located between Durango and Sinaloa. The Baluarte Bridge is built 403.4 meters above sea level and is the most important work carried out during this administration, with an investment of more than 20 billion pesos, informed the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).
 
Nissan plans a third plant in Mexico, The Wall Street Journal, 06/01/2012.
Nissan Motor Co. plans to build a third car factory in Mexico to supply demand in North and South America and gain regional leadership. Currently, Nissan has a capacity of 700,000 vehicles annually in its two plants in Mexico.
 
Audi may be leaning toward Mexico for a North American assembly plant, according to WardsAuto, an automotive industry website.
 
Guadalajara will feature the audiovisual and technology development project “Ciudad Creativa Digital”, which could bring in up to 10 billion dollars in investments related to the project and generate an “export ecosystem” of approximately two billion dollars, informed ProMéxico.
 
The United States was the largest tequila consumer worldwide in 2011, occupying 47.31% of global demand and exceeding Mexico by 9.44 percentage points, according to data from the Tequila Regulating Council (CRT).

Business climate is king again in Latin America

According to a Reuters analysis.

Latin America, business climate is king again.

The countries expected to grow the fastest in 2012 are also generally the ones that are perceived by the World Bank and others as treating investors the best. That means Chile, Peru and Colombia should lead the pack, while Venezuela and even Brazil will lag a step behind - just as they did last year.
